The Department of English Language and Literature is one of the oldest units of the Faculty of Letters. Although the Department of English Language and Literature is a 4-year program, our department offers an English preparatory program for enrolled students who fail the placement exam. The aim of the courses in our Preparatory Program, such as written and spoken English, translation and research techniques, is to improve students’ language skills. The main purpose of the 5-year program, together with the preparatory class, is to provide students with a comprehensive education in the fields of English Language and Literature, as well as to help them maximize their spoken and written English language skills. From the first year on, students experience a comprehensive learning process with language lessons and examples of works from various periods from English Language and Literature, with subjects that shed light on the roots of literature such as mythology, drama, history, and American culture and literature. Thus, the students of the Department of English Language and Literature receive a diploma as people who can use their field knowledge effectively and make a difference with their oral and written expression skills. The main goal of our expert lecturers in their fields is to help raise individuals who have absorbed critical and analytical thinking methods and have the ability to express themselves effectively. In this sense, it is important not only for students to gain a solid foundation in the field, but also to develop them personally through the courses in the department program. Our students, who are entitled to graduate at the end of the English Language and Literature education program, are within the scope of the Ministry of National Education, private schools / colleges and other corporate courses or in many other professional groups (radio-newspaper-television-informatics, publishing-translator, tourism) in terms of their skills they have developed. , international / public relations, banking sector etc.) are preferred and they can find job opportunities.
