It was established within the body of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences on November 17, 1958 within Atatürk University. The Faculty of Arts and Sciences, which continues its activities in the Poet Nefi Secondary School, moved to its own buildings in the current campus at the beginning of the 1962-1963 academic year. In the 1970-1971 academic year, it started education at the undergraduate level for the first time with 96 students.
