Sociology is a scientific and political field in which changes in social structure, from men’s daily life through social events to the effects of state institutions on the society, are analysed on a theoretical and practical level. Sociologic approach analyses people’s relations with each other and with social and state structures during social events to come up with critical solution methods.
The graduates of the department are entitled as sociologist. A sociologist keeps in contact with people and society to understand and explain them, analyses the interaction patterns between them and does all these activities on a scientific level.
The graduates of the Department of Sociology can find a job as a sociologist in a high number of fields. Job opportunities of sociologists have increased today with the appointments in public institutions in recent years and with the increased interest of the private sector in sociology. As long as a graduate of the department does not forget the principle that “the more s/he develops her/himself during and after the education, the more likely s/he is to find a job”, it will be possible for her/him to work in her/his field after graduation. They can also carry on their academic career by doing their MA and PhD studies. They can be employed by the Ministry of Family and Social Policies, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of National Education, State Planning Organization, General Directorate for Foundations, Directorate of Social Services, and so on. Their employment choices also range from research firms, media organizations, human resources, advertising, public relations, consultancy, publishing, and so on. Finally, they are entitled to work as a philosophy teacher on the condition that they complete the required courses of philosophy, psychology and logic, and as a family consultant on the condition that they take the required certificates.
