    The department aims at graduating mechanical engineers who have mastered the fundamental notions of engineering and principles of mechanical engineering discipline as well as who are able to learn various applications independently, examine critically, evaluate and find solutions. The department recognizes the importance of team work, effective communication and professional ethics. Hence the curricula is enriched to graduate students who are inquisitive, innovative, initiative taking team players, and who are sociable, well rounded culturally and have broad interests.

    The first six semesters of the B.S. program are common to all Mechanical Engineering students. In the seventh and eighth semesters, students take three specialization option courses and choose three complementary courses with a view toward complementing their program according to their individual interests. In addition, one course may be selected as a free elective. There are two option sequences available: Thermal Systems, and Mechanical Structures and Systems. The selection of the specialization option and the complementary courses must be made under the supervision of the department advisors.

    In addition to the course-credit requirements, a 60-day industrial training, in areas approved by the Department, during the two summer breaks following the second and the third years, is required.

    The course requirements for the Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering total a minimum of 146 credit hours of formal course work.
