    The Department of Agricultural Economics was established under the name of the Department of Agricultural Economics as one of the two departments that existed when Atatürk University Faculty of Agriculture was opened on 17 November 1958 and started education in today’s Erzurum Poet Nefi Secondary School with 79 students. It gave its first graduates in the 1961-1962 academic year. The name of the department was changed as “Department of Agricultural Economics” by YÖK in 1982. Students who graduated from 1958 to 19.08.1982 were entitled to the title of Agricultural Engineer, and their title was changed to Agricultural Engineer as of 19.08.1982. During the establishment of Atatürk University, within the framework of a 10-year agreement with the United States, the education and training activities in the Faculty of Agriculture and consequently in the Department of Agricultural Economics were carried out by academic staff from Nebraska University in the USA, with the support of academic staff from Ankara and Istanbul Universities.
