Midwifery is a healthcare profession that deals with providing services for pregnant women, new mothers and their infants. It is the health science that deals with pregnancy, childbirth and reproductive health of women.

Midwives play an important role in promoting the health and wellbeing of women and their families by supporting the woman’s childbearing choices and providing expertise around pregnancy, birth and the new-born period.

Certified nurse-midwives are involved in prenatal and postnatal medical care. They provide counsel and support in preparing families for parenthood.

Midwifery Programme at Fenerbahçe University offers theory and clinical practice to equip the students with the knowledge and skills so that they will be ready to provide high quality midwifery care professionally and have the competencies to make a difference in the lives of women and their families for the better.

Professional midwives have career opportunities in public or private hospitals, small maternity units and birth centres.

The Midwifery Bachelor Degree Programme Graduates; will be equipped with the knowledge, skill and abilities to care for women, babies and their families prior to pregnancy, during pregnancy, labour, birth and the early infancy period.

The graduates will have knowledge of the fundamentals in medicine, anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, microbiology, hygiene, genetics, gynaecology, neonatology and paediatrics.

The graduates will have the knowledge to provide continuous support and counselling during pregnancy. They will have the skill to manage childbirth and be able to provide care for the mother and the new-born during the postpartum period and breastfeeding.

The graduates will be knowledgeable in midwifery, pharmacology, normal and risky pregnancy and reproductive health. They will also have developed qualities such as empathy, compassion, good communication and teamwork skills.

The graduates will be able to promote good health and quality of life as a professional and be committed to the ethical standards and values of the profession.
